The siberian husky

The Siberian Husky, one of the oldest breeds of dogs, comes from the eastern part of Siberia. This breed is known for being a sled dog that has high endurance for harsh environment and cold weather. Siberian Huskies were used for the 1908 All-Alaskan Sweepstake—a 408 mile long dogsled race. They were also used for working and pulling heavy loads, but today they have also become show dogs as well as pets.

Siberian Huskies are medium-size working dogs that have stunning good-looks. They somehow resemble the appearance of a wolf because of their erect rectangular ears, thick coat, paws, and legs. They have, however, that curled or sickle tail that is very identifiable. Most Siberian Huskies have soft, fluffy black and white coats, but there are those that have copper-red, gray, and Agouti streaks. They are 20 to 23.5 inches tall and they weigh 35 to 60 pounds.

Siberian Huskies are very energetic, which makes them a great companion to people who love outdoor activities such as jogging. They run fast and are pretty active. Owners should give these dogs time to play and have fun to satisfy their high energy level.

These dogs are likewise sociable, so they have become great domestic pets. They also easily make friends. They love being around with other dogs since they are originally bred to work with them. But while Siberian Huskies are friendly, owners must keep in mind that these dogs can be mischievous and strong-willed to do what they want. Owners should have the patience and determination to take care of them. These pets must also be supervised around small animals like cats because Siberian Huskies have strong predatory instincts.

Some Siberian Huskies turn out to be destructive too. This can happen to other dogs if they don’t have any outlet for their energy. Aside from having ample time to play, they should also have activities that will keep them stimulated. Once they get bored, they tend to entertain themselves by chewing things around the house.

Siberian Huskies are not prone to hip dysplasia, which is usually found in larger dog breeds. Health problems often occur due to genetic issues such as eye defects and seizures. Siberian Huskies that are used for sled racing, on the other hand, may be susceptible to illnesses such as bronchitis and gastric erosions, among others. Siberian huskies are shown at dog shows in the working dog group.
